Before you start
The manor is open to the world — play from anywhere, on your own internet, no need to be at Tom's. Two things to sort out first. Make sure Minecraft is updated to its latest version on whatever you're playing on. And ask Tom to put you on the guest list: the gate only opens for names he's written down, so send him the exact username or gamertag you play under before you try to join.
II.
On a Switch: point it at the right map
Nintendo Switch won't let Minecraft take a typed-in address — there's no "Add Server" screen. The workaround is BedrockConnect, a small community tool that hijacks a couple of the built-in featured servers and swaps in a menu where you can type an address. Getting there means changing your Switch's DNS — the lookup service it uses to find things online — to point at BedrockConnect's servers instead of the default one.
From the HOME Menu, open System Settings
Go to Internet → Internet Settings
Select the Wi‑Fi network you're on, then Change Settings
Scroll to DNS Settings and switch it to Manual
Set Primary DNS to 104.238.130.180
Set Secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8
Save, and back out to the HOME Menu
What this actually changes
DNS is essentially the phone book your Switch uses to find anything online — every device does a DNS lookup constantly, for everything, not just games. Setting it manually means:
Your Switch is now asking a small, volunteer‑run server for that phone book instead of Nintendo's own — it isn't run by Nintendo or Mojang, so treat it as you would any other third‑party service.
It affects the whole console's internet lookups while it's set this way, not just Minecraft — though in practice this only matters the moment you're actually online.
Being volunteer‑run, it can occasionally be slower or briefly down. If a featured server won't load, that's the likely reason — try again shortly.
It's fully reversible: set DNS back to Automatic in the same menu whenever you're done, and nothing about your Switch is changed for having tried it.
III.
Joining the world
With DNS set, open Minecraft and tap into one of these featured servers on the Servers tab — any of them will hand you off to BedrockConnect instead of connecting for real:

Playing on Java instead?
If you're on a PC with Java Edition, none of the above applies to you — no DNS changes, no BedrockConnect. Just go to Multiplayer → Add Server and enter:

Crossplay
Java and Bedrock players land in the same world together — the manor doesn't care which edition let you in.
